Company's IP Issues
The Company invests extensive R&D resources in emerging energy technologies.
Both the breadth and rate of innovation are high, necessitating the development
of comprehensive and sustainable IP management processes. Opportunities included:
- No formalized process for capturing and disclosing IP;
- Limited strategic understanding of competitive IP; and
- No coherent IP strategy aligned with the overall goals of the organization.
ipCG Services
ipCG performed ipScan® invention inventories in four different technical
spaces in order to help the Company organize its IP portfolio. The scan services
provided a lengthy list of potential inventions to be disclosed.
We worked closely with the Company and its patent counsel to conduct invention
interviews. We produced over 100 ipDisclosure® records, which formed the
basis for an extensive list of enabled patent applications and formalized trade
secret documents.
We performed an ipStrategy® session to align the Company's mission,
vision, and goals with the IP. Our
ipLandscape® and ipAnalytics® services provided a visual representation
of the Company's IP portfolio in relation to competitive intelligence
in the technology space. When the results of these services were combined, we
were able to create a comprehensive IP story that was suitable for the investment community.
Benefit From ipCG Services
- Our ipScan process rapidly captured existing and near-term inventions,
allowing for efficient identification of disclosure targets. Our ipDisclosure
process saved the Company valuable time and money by disclosing inventions in
an expedient and consistent manner that could be readily leveraged by executive
reviewers and legal representatives.
- Our ipLandscape and ipAnalytics assessed the Company's product
value expectations. We mapped concentrated areas of IP, along with white spaces,
and reported industry trends and technologies that have commercialization potential.
- Our strategy session helped the Company align its ongoing IP strategy
with its overall business goals.
- Our final report summarized the relative strength of the Company's
IP, compared to competitive IP, in the technology space. The Company now has a
solid, well-designed IP portfolio and relative value analysis that can be taken
to the investment community or potential joint venture partners or can be used
to support M&A activities.
