Institution’s IP Issues
Invention Repository:
The Institution needed to capture and document all intellectual assets produced within the organization. It worked in several technology spaces and had no central invention repository for its IP. It had an immediate need to capture and document the intellectual assets of an important research program.
IP Process/Strategy:
The Institution needed to educate its scientists and create an Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) process. It developed valuable IP, but did not have an established process that would generate revenue from these assets.
Cultural Bias:
The Institution is a government-funded organization that develops ideas and concepts for the government. The inventors viewed themselves as academic investigators and they had concerns about commercializing their ideas.
ipCG Services
Our ipScan® session extracted over 100 invention records, and helped the Institution organize its IP into invention disclosure groups. We then documented a number of invention disclosures, capturing some of the most important ideas.
We conducted an ipInvention Course® to create a process to manage the Institution’s IP. We made the group aware of the elements needed to create and maintain a successful IAM process.
We are continuing to work with the Institution to capture, document, and create
licensing opportunities for the IP generated in a variety of development groups.
Benefit From ipCG Services
- The Institution now has a well-documented, stronger portfolio. The
ipScan report supplied management with the information necessary to make informed
IP business decisions.
- The ipInterview® and ipDisclosure® processes promoted internal communication, facilitated management decision making, and provided the foundation for the Institution’s IP portfolio.
- By implementing a process developed in the ipInvention Course, the
Institution reduced the time it took to turn ideas into valuable, tangible assets,
and initiated a cultural change that successfully managed its IP.
