    Master’s degree in biotechnology with a concentration in FDA regulatory matters from Johns Hopkins University, JD from Temple University’s James E. Beasley School of Law, and  bachelor’s of science degree from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in Cell and Molecular Biology.  Certificate in quantitative modeling from the University of Pennsylvania.

    Biography

    Andrea Small is a Senior Advisor at ipCapital Group with over 20 years of intellectual property strategy development, licensing, business development, technology sale and acquisition, strategic collaboration partnering, innovation development, and developing IP operating procedures. Andrea is also an award-winning IP Counsel, author, and business owner. She is known for her demonstrated track record of providing strategic, pragmatic, and innovative solutions to unique challenges. Andrea serves as consultant and advisor to companies in the life science, agriculture, software, and specialty chemicals industries. She understands the unique challenges faced by technology companies and utilizes her practical business and legal background to help companies understand the value generated from intellectual property and develop strategies to attain the highest return on investment for those assets.

    In addition to being Senior Advisor at ipCaptial Group, Andrea is business owner of multiple businesses, Insight Strategies, LLC, a business consulting firm, Essential Ally, LLC, an IP focused firm serving clients globally, and Speed Elite Academy, LLC, an online training portal for young athletes. Prior to that, she worked as Division Patent Counsel and Co-Chair for the Global Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) for FMC Corporation in Philadelphia, PA. At FMC, Andrea was a strategic business partner where shemanaged and supported a diverse portfolio of legal matters impacting the global Agriculture Solutions business, including intellectual property (IP), technology transactions, mergers and acquisitions, licensing, alliance management, litigation, regulatory matters and company policies.

    Prior to her work at FMC, Andrea worked extensively in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries at top tier companies, such as Johnson Matthey, Elan Pharmaceuticals, and Boehringer Ingelheim.  At these companies, Andrea helped business development professionals navigate the competitive intellectual property and regulatory landscape to bring products to market.  Andrea executed numerous licensing transactions, mergers, acquisitions, technology transfers, while building intellectual property portfolios.  She also supported the development of products in the new chemical and biological entity space under NDA, Hatch-Waxman, and BLA regimes, medical devices under PMA and 510(k) processes, and generic pharmaceutical products under ANDA and 505(b)(2) submissions.  Andrea has also guided business with developing and entering new business ventures.

    Andrea also has experience working with the federal government as an U.S. patent examiner. As an examiner, Andrea reviewed and opined on the patentability of small molecule patent applications.
